GMRT, for companies, investors and researchers with a focus on ASEAN
Organized on a voluntary and private basis, our chapter initiators, speakers and participants create valuable synergies for the exchange between Germany and the ASEAN region on a local level. Whether expatriates, entrepreneurs, investors, academics or government representatives - our community thrives on the diversity of their perspectives. What unites them is the common aspiration to inspire each other, learn from each other and provide impetus - in order to actively shape global change.
GMRT does not pursue any economic profit goals, but is committed to the non-profit social, economic and cultural goals of its participants.
As an independent platform, GMRT deliberately avoids links to economic lobbies or interest groups.
GMRT does not belong to any chamber of commerce and only represents the interests of its individual participants.

  Visions
What mechanisms and measures are actually in place in the Asian economic area ASEAN in the fields of energy and environmental technology? How can German/Austrian companies use their expertise to be particularly competitive in Southeast Asia? And how have companies from your sector proceeded that have already paved their own way to Malaysia? At the GMRT, successful entrepreneurs will present their ideas, visions and strategies to make your move to ASEAN easier.
  Personnel
Due to the close economic ties between Germany and Malaysia, many Malaysian managers work as expatriates here in their home country. The in-depth knowledge they bring with them can be put to good use for your company at the GMRT and you can also make your first important contacts in Asia. There are around 200 Malaysian students studying in Germany who can be recruited as potential employees for you. Get to know the students at GMRT events.
  Trade
As the third strongest ASEAN country, Malaysia is an economically highly interesting partner that exports large quantities of raw materials such as oil and palm oil, as well as rubber products and chemical precursors, in addition to cutting-edge electronic technology. In particular, Germany exports electronic products, motor vehicles, pharmaceutical products and machinery to Malaysia. It is no coincidence that Germany is Malaysia’s most important trading partner in the EU – bilateral trade between the two nations amounted to over 12 million euros, approximately one third of total bilateral EU-Malaysia trade. Find out important background facts on import regulations and local requirements from the GMRT.
  Institutions
Industry associations, international chambers of commerce and business institutions are strong and indispensable partners for successful engagements abroad. Central contacts from these institutions will be giving talks at our event, presenting the most important aspects of the framework conditions in a bite-sized format.
  Research
Research is an expensive, often risky endeavor that should be carefully planned and funded for the long term. But do you know the current research needs in Malaysia? Do you know how to obtain important funding and where you can publish research results in a way that is effective for the public? At GMRT, you can ask the experts directly.
  ASEAN Economic Community
Malaysia not only leads ASEAN with Singapore, it is also increasingly being used by German companies as a springboard to tap into the Southeast Asian region. Malaysia and the EU have been negotiating a free trade agreement for some time now, which should send out further positive signals. Use the GMRT’s direct line to Malaysia to find out more about the ASEAN region and your opportunities in this large market. Find out more at our next roundtable.
  Authorities & government representatives
Administrative procedures and approval processes can often be very time-consuming and costly for newcomers without the relevant cultural background, making the risk of a targeted expansion or takeover seem too great. At the GMRT, you will meet German employees from government organizations and institutions who can give you valuable advice and tips so that you can head straight for a tailor-made solution.
